Pakistan Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that it has provided a second consular access to Indian diplomats to visit the Indian convict who had been critically injured in an attack in a Pakistani prison.

Sarabjeet Singh, convicted for alleged involvement in a series of bomb attacks that killed 14 people in 1990 in Punjab Province, was in a death cell in Kot Lakhpat Jail in the Pakistani city of Lahore.

The Foreign Ministry said that the Indian diplomats have been asked to coordinate with Deputy Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Office in Lahore and with the head of Jinnah Hospital where Singh is being treated.

Earlier Sunday, the family members of Sarabjeet Singh also visited Sarabjeet and met with the doctors.

A Foreign Ministry statement said the hospital offered a room for the family members to stay, in case they wanted to be close to the patient, however they chose to stay in a hotel.

"Family members will be able to visit Sarabjeet whenever they want to and full cooperation is being given to them by the Punjab Government and the hospital staff," it said.

"The Government of Pakistan remains committed to provide all assistance necessary to the family of Sarabjeet and will continue to cooperate with the Indian authorities in this regard," the statement said.

Pakistan earlier said that doctors are working hard to 'revive the prisoner who remains unconscious on a ventilator'.

A group of Pakistani prisoners attacked him with bricks, tin and iron rods when he was walking in the premises of the prison, jail sources said.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that the Home Department of Punjab and jail authorities are investigating the matter.
