China’s PPI up 4.9 pct, CPI up 1.8 pct in December

China's producer price index (PPI) rose 4.9 percent year-on-year in December, while the country's consumer price index (CPI) went up 1.8 percent year-on-year last month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Wednesday.

The PPI measures costs for goods at the factory gate. It was down from a growth of 5.8 percent recorded in November, according to the NBS.

China’s PPI increased 6.3 percent year-on-year in 2017, which ended a five-year decline since 2012.

The CPI is a main gauge of inflation. The increase was slightly up from 1.7 percent for November, according to the NBS.

The country’s CPI last year grew 1.6 percent year-on-year, down from 2 percent for 2016, according to the NBS.
