The Philippine anti-narcotics agency urged Sunday transport leaders to implement drug test among their drivers after a tragic bus accident recently.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. said the rising road accidents caused by drivers are high on drugs.
"These incidents proved that there is a prevailing practice of illegal drug use among bus drivers," he said.
On Wednesday, a bus crashed on a concrete post in Quezon City, Metro Manila, killing four passengers and injuring 18 others.
The arrested bus driver tested positive for the use of methamphetamine hydrochloride.
Mandatory drug testing for driver's license applicants was removed two year ago after the passage of Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act.
PDEA expressed hope that the transport sector will police its ranks and encourage their members to submit themselves for drug testing.
