Taylor Swift, one of social media's most popular celebrities, appears to have wiped years of posts from her accounts.

The US singer deleted years of Twitter posts, with nothing showing after 2010.

The page said she had 2,019 posts on Friday evening but none were loading and her profile picture had been removed.

All of her Instagram photos and posts on Tumblr also disappeared.

Her profile photo and postings before December 2015 were deleted from Facebook and her website was blank.

Swift, whose hits include Blank Space, has more than 85 million Twitter followers and 102 million followers on Instagram.

They were left wondering whether her accounts had been hacked, whether she was reinventing herself or whether there was a new album on its way.

One Twitter user was quoted as saying they were "scared to go to sleep" because the artist might "drop a new song".

Another tweeted: "Is the new era coming or has she been hacked?"

The 27-year-old singer's publicist did not respond to requests for comment but some Twitter users pointed out that the social media deletions come three years to the day that she announced her last album - 1989.

It also comes just days after she won a legal battle against DJ David Mueller, when a jury found he had groped her during a photo shoot.

Mueller had accused Swift of slandering him to his radio station, alleging her complaint led to his unfair dismissal.

Swift had counter-sued Mueller in the civil case, alleging he groped her during a 2013 backstage photo op with fans and guests before a concert in 2013.

She was praised by many for her unflinching testimony at the trial in Denver, Colorado.

She later made a donation to the sexual violence campaign and support group Joyful Heart Foundation.
