DPRK slams South Korean president for veto of parliamentary law revision

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday criticized South Korean President Park Geun-hye's recent veto of a revision to parliamentary law designed to allow the National Assembly to challenge administrative legislation.

The revision aims to hold in check "arbitrary practices" of the Park's administration and "reflects the unanimous demand of the public," the DPRK's Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) said in a statement carried by state media KCNA.

The statement also blasted Park for forcing the floor leader of the ruling Saenuri party Yoo Seung-min to step down for his betraying actions. Yoo was accused of supporting the passing of the revised bill through the National Assembly and not properly backing the president.

"The reality goes to clearly prove that Park and her group are hideous stranglers of democracy," the statement added.

Park said during a cabinet meeting that the revision would empower the parliament to intervene in every administration of the government, and it is "not understandable."

It was Park's first exercising of the veto power since taking office in February 2013. Enditem
