Public security organs across China Thursday launched a campaign against telecom fraud, arresting 798 suspects and shutting down 57 illegal text message platforms.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the campaign focused on telecom fraud suspects claiming to be able to offer loans to victims.

A total of 15 provincial regions were involved in these cases, including Beijing and Shanghai, the ministry said.

The criminal groups used text messages to spread links to their fraud apps, the ministry said, noting that such cases have appeared frequently this year.
