Spanish National Police confirmed Wednesday they had made 21 arrests in the wake of a mass brawl between far right-wing groups close to the emblematic Plaza Catalonia in Barcelona on Oct. 12.

The detainees, who share the same extreme political views but support different football teams, came to blows during a march to commemorate Spain's national day which members of political parties such as the People's Party and Ciudadanos attended.

Police have spent the last month working to identify those involved in the fight from the numerous videos which were recorded of the brawl in which chairs and tables from several restaurants in the area were thrown and panic was caused among tourists and visitors in the area.

The majority of those arrested in the operation, named Operation Zurich, are between 20 and 40 years old and include several members of Real Madrid's 'Ultra Sur' radical supporters' group.

The majority face charges against the public order and Spanish interior minister Juan Ignacio Zoido has not ruled out further arrests as investigations continue.
