China has lodged stern representation to the United States over a visit to the Taiwan region by three U.S. senators, and urged the U.S. to cease any forms of official contact with the island, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Monday.

Wang said the U.S. move severely violated the one-China principle and he urged Washington to stop sending signals to "Taiwan independence" forces to avoid causing grievous damage to the China-U.S. relationship.
