It feels like just a season ago that the see-now-buy-now model was the cutting edge of fashion, at least in New York. Eyeing collections from Ralph Lauren to Thakoon on the runway one moment, shoppers could immediately pick up the latest styles with a click of a mouse the next. But stepping out yesterday in a pair of glittering crystal-embellished ruched knee-high boots straight from Saint Laurent’s Fall 2017 show, Rihanna reminded the industry who exactly gets first dibs on the hottest collections in Paris.
After all, as she declares in her 2012 hit song “Phresh Out the Runway,” the singer can hardly wait for a designer to take a bow before plucking pieces directly from the catwalk and has been bypassing wait lists and preorders altogether for years.
It’s been a little less than a week since Anthony Vaccarello presented his sophomore offering for the French house, and already the luxe, ’80s-inspired footwear has been topping editors’ wish lists. Rihanna claimed the glamorous rock ’n ’roll look as her own, pairing the boots with ripped denim, Raf Simons’s Patti Smith oversize sweatshirt, and Schott’s Perfecto biker jacket. She posted three back-to-back Instagram pics to show off her new Saint Laurent wares, and one caption read quite simply, “Obsessed.” One thing is sure: Shoe fanatics looking to follow in the singer’s footsteps are going to have a hard time tracking down these must-have boots.
