French President Emmanuel Macron was on course Sunday to win a second term by defeating Marine Le Pen in presidential elections, projections showed.
Macron was set to win 57.6-58.2 percent of the vote compared with Le Pen on 41.8-42.4 percent, according to projections by polling firms for French television channels based on a sample of the vote count.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel on Sunday congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron after projections showed him winning a second term in office.
