Vietnam's Ministry of Health on Monday night announced that two more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 123.
The two new cases are both Vietnamese. One is a 17-year-old girl from southern Ben Tre province who lived in Malaysia for a few months and returned home on a flight from Brunei last Tuesday.
The other is a 24-year-old woman from central Ha Tinh province who was working in Thailand. She has been to a bar in Bangkok and returned to Vietnam last Friday.
On Monday alone, Vietnam reported 10 new infections. A total of 17 patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery with no deaths recorded so far in the country.
Vietnam has 645 suspected cases with more than 52,000 being monitored and quarantined as of late Monday, the health ministry said.
In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 outbreak, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Monday ordered all non-essential services, especially catering and karaoke, to be shut down in order to minimize gatherings, adding that gatherings must also be avoided in funerals and weddings as well as in places of worshiping, Vietnam News Agency reported.
