Cambodian PM flies to Myanmar for ASEAN Summit

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen left for Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar, on Tuesday to attend the 25th ASEAN Summit and related meetings slated for Wednesday through Thursday.

"The 25th ASEAN Summit is expected to discuss important issues concerning ASEAN community building, ASEAN's external relations, ASEAN community's post-2015 vision, and regional and international issues of common interest and concerns," he said.

He said the summit will also touch on regional and international issues such as the Korean Peninsula, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the conflict in Ukraine, and the recent outbreak of Ebola.

Besides attending the 25th ASEAN Summit, Hun Sen will participate in meetings with ASEAN's dialogue partners and the 9th East Asia Summit.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Hun Sen will hold separate talks with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations founded in 1967, groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Enditem
