Final-year high school students in China's Jilin city resume classes

More than 7,600 students in their final year from senior high schools returned to campus Monday in Jilin, a city previously hit by the COVID-19 epidemic in northeast China's Jilin Province.

Wearing uniforms and masks, students at Yuwen High School had their temperatures taken before entering their classrooms at around 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Chen Jing, vice-principal of the school, said the school has prepared sufficient anti-epidemic materials including medical alcohol and disinfectants. Teachers and students are required to have their temperatures checked three times a day.

Affected by COVID-19, China's national college entrance exam has been postponed by one month to July 7 and 8.

To ensure safe class resumption, the Jilin municipal bureau of education had completed between May 30 and June 7 free nucleic acid testing for a total of 22,579 people including final-year senior high school teachers, students and those who live together with them. All of them tested negative for the coronavirus.

The city had adopted a slew of stringent measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, including suspending all coach and tourist charter bus services, after Shulan, a county-level city administered by the city of Jilin, reported multiple domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases in early May.

Three districts in the city of Jilin have been classified as low-risk areas of COVID-19 starting from Sunday as the epidemic wanes.
