Bollywood star SR Khan's new film takes theaters by storm

Chennai Express, the new film of India's Bollywood star Shah Rikh Khan, took theaters by storm on the first day of its presentation.

SR Khan saw a collection of office box of 331.2 million rupees (5.4 million U.S. dollars) with Chennai Express, aiming 1 billion rupees by Monday, said local daily Business Standard Sunday.

Occupancy rate of Chennai Express Friday was 95 to 100 percent across the country, said the newspaper.

His rival Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger hit 1 billion rupees in five days last year.

"Chennai Express has taken the box office by a storm in international markets. The movie is setting new opening-day and paid-preview records and benchmarks for Hindi movies in most countries," Amrita Panday, executive director, international distribution, Disney UTV, told the newspaper.
