The annual awards exhibition by the Three Shadows Art Center is underway in Beijing. It's the tenth edition of the event and its opening day – which was on Saturday – saw 20 young Chinese photographers present their works. They were selected out of 533 candidates for the center's "Interlink" exhibition.

Chinese photographer Wang Tuo (fifth from left) took home this year's Three Shadows Art Award.

Young Chinese photographer Wang Tuo took home this year's award for his work "The Interrogation".

Beyond anyone's guess, his work is not just a simple photo, but a video constructed entirely from still photographs and photo collage, playing out as a photo montage along with a voice over.

The works of other Chinese photographers on display were also impressive. Pi Li, the senior curator of the Hong Kong M+ Museum, was invited to join the jury this year. He said that art is something that cannot be judged and we should focus more on the way and the approach the young artists use the photograph.

The Three Shadow Art Centre Art Center was founded by couple artists RongRong and inri. It is China's first independent organization specializing in contemporary photography.

To support emerging Chinese photographers, the center established the Three Shadows Photography Award in 2008.

Over the decade, the event has acted as a platform for the world to better understand Chinese contemporary photography and to learn about Chinese stories.

The event has significantly boosted the careers of its awardees, and emerged as one of the premier platforms for young photographers in China.

The "Interlink" exhibition will run until May 23.
