Indonesian president meets Singaporean FM

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday held a meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan at the State Palace, agreeing to step up bilateral ties and mutually-beneficial cooperation.

Minister Vivian said that his country aimed at boosting investment in Indonesia, according to Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir, who was accompanying President Widodo during the meeting.

"He (the minister) was confident that much more investment of his country in Indonesia," Fachir said after the meeting.

Singapore has been among the top investors in Indonesia, targeting 16 billion U.S. dollars' investment in Indonesia with realization of 5.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2014.

Singapore is Indonesia's second largest trading partner after China.

Last year, the trade volume of the two countries reached 42 billion U.S. dollars.

Over 1.5 million Singaporean holiday makers visit Indonesia every year, according to the national statistic bureau.
