The UK's Brexit
Secretary David Davis said on Tuesday EU citizens living in Britain
should not be protected by the European Court of Justice after the
Britain leaves the bloc.
The rights of EU citizens
in Britain remains a major topic between London and Brussels. However,
little progress was made during the second round of Brexit negotiations
last week.
The UK opposes the EU insistence on the
rights of three million Europeans in Britain being guaranteed by
recourse to the European Court of Justice.
When
asked whether the UK will compromise, Davis said that UK is intent that
this should be put in “an act of parliament enforced by the British
courts…and most importantly backed up by a treaty.”
The second round of Brexit negotiationswas held on July 17 to 20. The next round is set to start in late August.
