Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday criticized the U.S. drone strike in the country and described the strike as "counterproductive."

General Bajwa's comments came a day after a U.S. drone strike reportedly killed a militant commander in Pakistan's northwestern Hangu district.

U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal regions have been substantially decreased following the Pakistani forces' operations to clear the areas from the local and foreign militants.

"Unilateral actions like drone strike are counterproductive and against spirit of ongoing cooperation and intelligence sharing being diligently undertaken by Pakistan," Bajwa said during his visit to Peshawar, according to the Pakistani military.

"Pakistan Army is capable of taking effective measure if actionable intelligence is shared," the army chief added.

Pakistan had long been critical at the U.S. strikes as the country terms such action as against the country's sovereignty. However, the United States has always ignored Pakistan's criticism at the drone strikes.
