Chinese villager hands pet parrot to police to better protect wildlife

A villager in southwest China's Yunnan Province has handed the parrot that he has been petting for six years to the police.

He obtained the parrot, a blue-and-gold macaw, six years ago from a friend as a gift.

He recently learned knowledge about wildlife protection and laws and regulations on the issue and then decided to hand the bird to the police.

Police said the bird is healthy and will be transferred to a local wildlife care center.
