Datuk Chong Sin Woon, secretary-general of Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), has extended his congratulation on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which falls on July 1, and shared his thoughts on China.

It has been seven years since the MCA signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation with the CPC in 2014. As the MCA celebrates its 72th birthday this year, Chong received an interview with the Asia Pacific Daily recently. He said the MCA has travelled a hard path of 72 years, let alone the 100-year arduous, but glorious journey that the CPC has walked.

Speaking of China’s achievements in recent years, Chong lauded the country’s complete victory in its fight against poverty, saying it had achieved the hard-won goal as planned, which many people had doubted about, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As its global influence grows, Chong said, China is playing a key role in addressing common concerns of humankind including in the global fight against the COVID-19.

He said Chinese-made vaccines are more than an option for the world, which is still facing acute shortages of vaccines. They could also fill a gap in the tight global supply situation.

Meanwhile, Chong said sharing is very important, not only for vaccines, but also for resources and technologies.

“For example, I think it’s a good thing that China is more involved in the space sector,” he said.

The secretary-general called on the joint development of the space from different countries because, in his view, the space is a common resource of all mankind.

“I would like to see China’s progress in space technology, such as the moon landing. I wonder if there is a difference between what the Chinese see on the Moon and the American see on the Moon. What about Russia and other countries? Those could be shared with the rest of the world,” he said.

China, as a world power, is leading the world with other countries, Chong said, stressing that China’s participation in global affairs will diversify leadership roles.
