Indian, Canadian PMs discuss COVID-19 vaccine production

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau spoke over the telephone on a wide range of issues, officials said on Thursday.

During their telephonic conversation on Wednesday, the two leaders discussed issues, including the production of COVID-19 vaccines, statements from both the countries said.

"Prime Minister Trudeau informed Prime Minister Modi about Canada's requirements of COVID-19 vaccines from India. Prime Minister assured the Canadian PM that India would do its best to support Canada's vaccination efforts, just as it had done for many other countries already," said the statement issued by Indian Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The statement issued by Canadian Prime Minister Office said the two leaders had an exchange on their respective efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, protect the health and safety of their people, and provide economic support for their citizens.

Both sides agreed to continue the close collaboration in fighting global challenges like climate change and the economic impacts of the pandemic.
