Egypt will not terminate gas deal with Jordan

Egypt said on Monday that it will not terminate a deal with Jordan to export gas to the kingdom, Jordan's state-run Petra news agency reported.

Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan Khalid Tharwat said here that media reports which claim Egypt seeks to end a gas deal with Jordan are inaccurate.

Egypt is committed to the agreement between the two countries, he said.

Under the deal, Egypt is to supply Jordan with 240 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. However, gas supply is completely halted at present after repeated bombings on the gas pipeline in Sinai which provides Jordan with gas.

The ambassador said Egypt is aware of the difficult economic conditions Jordan is going through and that when security is restored, Egypt will resume gas provision to Jordan.
