MANILA, Feb. 7 (APD) – The Philippine Embassy in Paris received word from the Crisis Center of the Paris Prefecture that a Filipino couple perished in the fire that razed an apartment building in the city Tuesday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), in a statement released at about 9:00 P.M. Thursday, said the French Ministry of Interior reported that the couple of Philippine nationality were among the 10 people who died in the fire on Rue Erlanger at the 16th Arrondissement of Paris.

Philippine Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa Lazaro said four other Filipinos in the same building survived the fire. They were staying at the second and third floors of the apartment building.

The couple, according to some members of the Filipino community, were at the top floor of the eight storey building.

The Department of Foreign Affairs statement did not identify the fatalities.
