Damascus slams EU's "destructive policies" on Syria

Syria's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday slammed the recent European Union meeting in Luxembourg, during which the EU ministers condemned the Syrian government for "unprecedented use of force and systematic violations of human rights."

The EU ministers' words highlighted their "complete ignorance" and rooted enmity toward the Syrian people, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the EU had adopted "destructive" policies and worsened the Syrians' livelihood by imposing illegal and unwarranted sanctions on Syria.

Meanwhile, the ministry reiterated the government's commitment to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis based on dialogue between Syrian factions and respect to the country 's sovereignty, rather than colonial interests of some Western countries.

Separately, the ministry sent an official complaint to the UN regarding the surging mortar attacks by the rebels on populated areas in the capital Damascus and other cities in Syria.

Earlier Wednesday, six people were killed by mortar shells in the northern city of Aleppo, coincided with multiple attacks on several Syrian districts, resulting in lots of casualties.
