APD | U.S’s NIKE to expand business in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, June 11 (APD) - Vice President of a U.S’s giant sportswear producer Nike Inc. CHRIS Helzer is very optimistic in the Cambodian market with strong economic growth and high compliance into the international labor law in the garment and footwear industry.

Speaking during the meeting with the minister of commerce Mr.Pan Sorasak on Wednesday Mr. CHRIS Helzer expressed he appreciates with the effort made by Cambodian government dealing with the improvement of the labor issues in the garment sector by creating a good working environment and very comply with the labor law that followed by the international labor standard.

“Cambodia got high compliance with international labor standards through factory monitoring programs, which are implemented as a partnership between the government and the private sector,” quoted Mr.Chris from the press release of the ministry.

“For companies like NIKE is very complying with the international labor standard which is also a major factor in investing and placing the order. In the regard, NIKE will continue its operations in Cambodia based on this,” he added.

Pan Sorasak said that the government has been working to improve investment and business environment for all investors and also make a lot of reform to make the private sector get profitable from business and investment in the country—particularly in the garment and textile industry.

Mr. Chris also said that Nike is still committed to continuing its partnership with the Cambodian government through putting more investment to strengthen the production chain, provide jobs for the people, and contribute to the growth of the country.
