ISLAMABAD, Aug. 28 (APD) - China’s Tianjin University of Technology and Education is all set to launch a technical and vocational education institution in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore in February next year, official sources said on Monday.

Sources told APD that the groundwork for the varsity had been finalized and a legal cover would also be provided to the institution by the government of the eastern province of Punjab.

The Punjab Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) had signed an agreement with the Tianjin University on May 17 this year to collaborate in establishing a varsity of technical and vocational training in the province.

Both sides held a series of meetings during the last couple of months and finalized features of the proposed varsity, including its charter, courses to be offered, budgetary requirements, faculty hiring, and availability of space as per requirements.

The source revealed that the varsity would be run by Chinese faculty and consultants to ensure production of the quality human resource.

A high-level delegation of the Tianjin University also called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, who appreciated the initiative which would be named as Punjab Tianjin University of Technical and Vocational Education.

“The skilled force has played an important role in the economic development and prosperity of China, and due to the strong contribution of this skilled workforce, China has touched new heights. Similarly, such initiatives by China will usher in the economic revolution by youth empowerment through development and utilization of trained skilled force,” said Sharif.

Lahore, the city where the university will be set up, is the capital of Pakistan’s most populous province Punjab and it houses top quality education institutes of the country.

Pakistani teachers who would be selected for the upcoming technical institutes would be provided training in Tianjin University.
