Southern California school locked down due to gunman threat

A high school in Southern Californian city of Arcadia was locked down Thursday afternoon after receiving an anonymous phone call reporting a gunman on campus.

Arcadia High School received the threatening phone call at around 3 p.m. local time (2200 GMT) and there were no suspects or suspicious persons found after police searched the campus, the Arcadia Police Department said.

Arcadia Unified School District said they informed parents about the situation shortly after the authority received the phone call. The Back to School Night scheduled on Thursday evening has been canceled.

At least two helicopters were hovering above the city and traffic towards the school was diverted as the police carries out the investigation.

It is the third time this week that a school in the San Gabriel Valley area in Southern California, including Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte and several other cities, was put on lockdown due to similar threateningphone calls.

On Monday, a male caller said he had an AK-47 and threatened to start shooting at Santa Fe Middle School in Monrovia.

On Tuesday, police searched Duarte High and Northview Intermediate schools which share the same campus after receiving tips about gunman in campus.

No person with a gun was found in the two previous cases.
