Chinese short video app Tik Tok is adding a "do not attempt" disclaimer at the beginning of clips featuring stunts after a user hurt his toddler while trying to imitate a daring move he saw in a video.

The app, which allows users to publicly share and browse seconds-long clips, announced on Monday it is launching a "risk warning system" after news of a fumbled attempt to emulate a stunt seen on Tik Tok triggered a debate about safety hazards resulting from the spread of such risky videos.

In a post on China's Twitter-like Weibo platform, the company said that they had noticed some users sustaining injuries when trying to imitate moves displayed in videos uploaded to the app.

In order to tackle the issue, a "risk warning system" would be initiated to remind people of the possible risks arising from reproducing tricks and stunts.

A two-year-old girl in the city of Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province, sustained injuries recently after her father attempted – and failed – to recreate a dangerous move in a video he saw on Tik Tok.

A still from Hubei economic TV showing a doctor talking about the toddler's injury after her father dropped her on her head.

The father was attempting to lift his daughter off the ground, then flipping her 180 degrees so she could fall down in a sitting position on both his arms. However, his stunt went horribly wrong and he accidentally dropped the toddler on the ground.

The girl plunged head first and doctors said she suffered from a spinal cord injury.

The heartbreaking accident went viral on the Chinese blogosphere, with thousands commenting on the issue.

The accident triggered a heated debate on Weibo.

"Some parents should not use their children for entertainment. Children are not pets, please respect them," said a Weibo user who goes by the name @lawyerxiong.

“I think the parent should take the main responsibility. Tik Tok is just a social platform with all kinds of fun videos and users. It is merely impossible for the company to predict all the potential problems. And it is unfair to ban these interesting videos on the platform because of a few accidents," another Weibo user @catrionalin noted.

"It is good to see Tik Tok taking this issue seriously and adding a disclaimer, just like some TV channels. I think more people will pay attention on safety issues after this accident," another user said.
