Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is still dominating the movie galaxy as the film's box office soared to 745 million US dollars worldwide as of Sunday.

The North American take hit 365 million US dollars in its first 10 days with the studio projecting another 32 million on Christmas Day on Monday, making it the third highest domestic release in 2017 following “Beauty and the Beast” with 504 million US dollars and “Wonder Woman” at 412 million US dollars.

Internationally, “The Last Jedi” has taken 380.3 million US dollars. It is already the top grossing film of 2017 in both Denmark and Sweden and the fourth highest grosser in the overall European market.

“The Last Jedi,” which picks up following the events of 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” is so far the 87th highest worldwide grosser of all time, trailing 2016’s “Suicide Squad” by 1.4 million US dollars.

“The Last Jedi,” directed by Rian Johnson, sees the return of the characters introduced in J.J. Abrams's first entry in the rebooted trilogy, and is also the last outing for the character Leia Organa, played by Carrie Fisher, who died last December.

The film's mega power also sees it outpacing three new releases in North American theaters. Sony’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and Universal’s “Pitch Perfect 3” opened solidly, taking in 34 million US dollars and 20.4 million US dollars respectively, while Fox’s “The Greatest Showman” drew only 8.6 million US dollars.

Producer Ram Bergman, director Rian Johnson and actors Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill arrive for the China premiere of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" at the Shanghai Disney Resort in Shanghai, China, December 20, 2017.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is set to open in Chinese theaters on January 5. The film had its China premiere in Shanghai last Wednesday, and director Johnson said the heart of the story is something most young adults can relate to. "It's a very human story about young adults trying to grow up."
