China’s Wuling Motors begins production in its Indonesian plant

JAKARTA, July 11 (APD) – China’s automaker Wuling Motors has officially started its production in its newly-built facility located in a West Java province’s Industrial zone, slated to officially launch its MPV masterpiece Confero S for the vibrant Indonesian market next month.

The facility that ran by SAIC GM Wuling Motor Indonesia (SGMWI) is designed of being capable to produce 120,000 cars per year and has opened 3,000 jobs for Indonesian people.

“With a total of 3,000 Indonesian resources working in the whole industry process, we are ready to contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth, particularly in automotive industry,” SGMWI President Xu Feiyun told a press conference prior to official launch of the factory on Tuesday.

He added that total fund invested to build the facility located in Greenland International Industrial Center in the province’s Cikarang district was 700 million U.S. Dollars.

Construction of the facility reflects the firm’s strong commitments to penetrate Indonesian market, he said.

The facility is also designed as Wuling Motors’ production base to serve Southeast Asia market, he added.

Half of the 60-hectare facility compound was designed to accommodate car production, while half of other was designed as a Supplier Park that accommodates the firm’s suppliers.

Xu said SGMWI has embraced 15 international and 20 domestic component suppliers at present, saying that it would embrace more domestic suppliers to comply with its ‘localization strategy’ of 56 percent local contents in each of its unit produced in the Indonesian plant.

Construction of Wuling Motors facility in Indonesia was settled within two years after its groundbreaking in 2015, he added.

Some 50 outlets and service centers have been prepared to serve Indonesian consumers across the country, he added.

In its initial operation Wuling Motors would sell Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPV) model Wuling Confero S. MPV is the best seller car segment in Indonesia.

The car is loaded with General Motors (GM) technology and competitive features inside its interior.

The 7-seater MPV car has engine capacity of 1,485 cc, capable to deliver 107 horse power (hp).

The SGMWI facility and production commencement was officially inaugurated by Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla, witnessed by SAIC and SGMW Chairman Chen Hong.

In his remarks, Jusuf praised the swift construction of the facility, saying that it has implied to good hope for the business in the country and public as the consumers.

The existence of Wuling Motors in Indonesia would give more choices on good and affordable cars for the people, Jusuf said.

“Besides that, good quality and after sales services should also be addressed. I believe that with all of that the car would fulfill people’s expectation on cars,” he said in the facility inauguration event.

SGMWI is a subsidiary of Guangxi-based SGMW, a joint venture firm of China’s biggest automotive firm SAIC, GM and Guangxi Automobile Group (Wuling).

Each of them contributed 50.1 percent, 44 percent and 5.9 percent shares in SGMW.
