Duterte to hold Cabinet meetings at night

Members of the Cabinet of president-elect Rodrigo Duterte should brace for late night meetings as he admitted being at his best at 6 p.m. and would rather begin his workday officially at 1 p.m.

Duterte said he would like his weekly Cabinet meetings in the afternoon – definitely not in the morning.

His frequent meetings with supporters and staff after his election victory would usually begin late in the afternoon and last until the wee hours.

He ruled out holding meetings on Sundays as he has to spend quality time with family.

The president-elect first met the members of his Cabinet last Tuesday at the Malacañang of the South, which is inside the premises of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Barangay Panacan here.

He has emphasized to his new Cabinet that his simple guidelines are summed up in a song folk singer Freddie Aguilar rewrote for his campaign, “Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago Duterte.”

The song was a paean to Duterte’s being a harbinger of change and enemy of the corrupt.

In his press conference last Tuesday, Duterte even played the song, which he called his “lullaby” to his official family.

He said the song is meant to inspire his officials to do their best in the discharge of their duties.

Duterte had CD copies of the song distributed to members of his Cabinet who were at the meeting.

At one point when the song was being played, he shouted “shut up” when some members of the media wondered aloud why the song was being played.

Duterte earlier profusely thanked long-time friend Aguilar for the song that may have played a big role in his victory in the May 9 elections.
