President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Busan, Republic of Korea this morning to begin his participation at the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit and other related special events and activities.

Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador S. Panelo said the chief executive was met by Korea Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Tae-ho, Deputy Director-General of Public Diplomacy/Task Force Philippines Team Leader Kyun Jongho and Ambassador to the Philippines Han Dong-Man at the Gimhae Air Base.

Philippine Ambassador to Korea Noe A. Wong and Chief Presidential Protocol and Presidential Asst. on Foreign Affairs Robert E. A. Borje also met President Duterte.

Secretary Panelo said the Commemorative Summit will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea with the slogan of “Partnership for Peace, Prosperity for People.” It is during this summit where President Duterte will discuss with other regional heads of state ways to address new world challenges, including protectionism, non-conventional security threats, transnational crimes and cybercrime, among others.

This is his second visit as head of state will further strengthen the warm relations between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea which began 70 years ago to explore further avenues of partnership and cooperation in matters of mutual concern and benefit,” Secretary Panelo said in his statement.

Twelve cabinet members and one government-owned and controlled corporation CEO compose the official delegation. In Special Order, President Duterte designated Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea as Officer-In-Charge from November 24-26 to attend to the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President and oversee the general administration of the Executive Department.
