Nigerian army adjusts counter-Boko Haram strategy to meet Dec. deadline

The Nigerian army is adjusting its strategy in the fight against Boko Haram in order to meet the December deadline set by President Muhammadu Buhari to beat the insurgents.

Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin revealed that on Wednesday when touring the units in the southern oil-rich city of Port Harcourt.

"We are currently working on the December deadline by re-addressing our strategies to ensure that we meet the target," he told reporters.

He said efforts were ongoing to enhance "efficiency and tactics" of the military to enable troops perform better during the operations against Boko Haram.

Buhari in August ordered the military to end the Boko Haram insurgency within three months.

Boko Haram has killed more than 13,000 people and abducted hundreds since it started campaign of violence in 2009. Enditem
