Vietnam's traffic accidents decline in first 5 months

Between January and May, 8, 374 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing 3,588 people, severely injuring 2,403 people, and lightly hurting 4,936 others, the country's Traffic Police Department said Tuesday.

The numbers of traffic accidents, deaths and severe injuries and slight injuries caused by the accidents decreased, respectively, by 10.1 percent, 3.9 percent, 4.5 percent and 18.3 percent from a year earlier.

On average, in the first five months of this year, Vietnam each day saw 55 traffic accidents which claimed 24 lives and injured 49 people.

Last year, the country reported 22,404 traffic accidents which killed 8,671 people and injured 20,556 others.
