The new United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution against the DPRK included a call for the resumption of the six-party talks, commitment to finding a peaceful solution, and the emphasis of the importance of de-escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula by the parties concerned, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday.

Wang added that sanctions are needed, but are by no means the ultimate goal.

The foreign minister's remarks came after the UNSC on Saturday unanimously adopted a US-drafted resolution that significantly strengthened sanctions on the DPRK over Pyongyang's two intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests in July.
