"Iron Man 3" sweeps Chinese box office

"Iron Man 3", the superhero sequel by American director Shane Black, took in more than 66 million U.S. dollars in its first five days...

Knocking off a domestic drama to claim the top spot at China's box office.

According to China Film News, "Iron Man 3" set a new China box office record, by raking in 18.9 million dollars on its opening day on last Wednesday.

It also topped the 17.9 million dollars that "Transformers 3" took on its opening day in 2011.

"So Young", a Chinese film about love on a college campus, finished second with 55.3 million dollars in the week ending on Sunday.

"The Croods", a cartoon set in the stone age, came third, taking in 19.5million dollars in the week.

Ticket sales for the week, including the three-day May Day holiday, hit more than 153 million dollars...

...surpassing the 140 million dollars raked in during the week ending Feb. 17, during this year's Spring Festival.
