France-based European launch provider Arianespace said that it had successfully launched two telecommunications satellites: DSN-1/Superbird-8 for the Japanese operator SKY Perfect JSAT and HYLAS 4 for the British operator Avanti Communications.

In a statement released on April 5, the company added that the rocket, Arianespace third launch of the year, lifted off from the Guiana Space Center (CSG), Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana at 18:34 local time (2234 GMT).

The new telecommunication satellite will provide telecom services, primarily for the Japanese market, and will replace Superbird-B2, launched by Arianespace in 2000.

With this launch of Ariane 5, the heavy-lift launcher has now transported more than 200 satellites since its entry in service in 1996.

"I would like to thank all of our partners in this new Ariane 5 success which confirms the launcher's outstanding reliability. Bravo to everyone at Arianespace who successfully completed this third launch of the year," said Stephane Israel, CEO of Arianespace.
