Nigerian troops flush out Boko Haram from more communities

Nigerian troops operating in restive northeastern states are flushing out Boko Haram terrorists in the region, the military said on Sunday.

Spokesperson for the defense headquarters Major General Chris Olukolade said in a statement reaching Xinhua, that Air Force pounding of identified terrorists hideouts is continuing in some locations in Yobe and Borno States as part of ongoing campaign against terror.

Olukolade added that simultaneous mopping up operations are also ongoing in the areas already operated upon by Nigerian Air Force have already been mopped up.

The latest operation against Boko Haram is coming on the heels of the agreement reached by regional leaders from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger to adopt a coordinated response to the group which has killed about 13,000 people and displaced over one million others.

The African Union Peace and Security Council held in January adopted a resolution to establish an initial 7,500 troops to combat the Boko Haram insurgents.
