Brunei and India have agreed to boost defense cooperation by conducting joint military exercises after the two countries signed three Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs).

The deals were inked during the visit of Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Borneo Bulletin reported on Wendsday.

According to the local newspaper, Ansari, on the first high-level visit to Brunei since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984, witnessed the signing of the MoUs in the field of defense, health, youth and sports affairs.

The two countries agreed to exchange military-related visits at different levels; share experience, information and training; conduct joint military exercises; and boost cooperation between their defense industries.

A team from Brunei will visit India to follow up on the defense MoU and identify areas of defense cooperation in the medium and long term, Anil Wadhwa, secretary of India's External Affairs Ministry told a press conference.

As for the MoU on health, he said India will also send a delegation to Brunei in order to identify how to set up facilities in Brunei that can be linked to a satellite for diagnostic purposes as well as implement the exchange and training of doctors.

"I think there will be a lot we can do in the future as it is an area of interest to both of us," he added. Enditem
