New Zealand reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Sunday, said a statement of the Ministry of Health.

The case is linked to a cluster outbreak in an aged care facility in Christchurch, as a household contact of an earlier case.

This means New Zealand's combined total of confirmed and probable cases reach 1,499, of which 1,149 are confirmed, it said.

New Zealand currently has 1,433 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19, an increase of five on Saturday. This means 96 percent of all confirmed and probable cases have recovered.

There are two people receiving hospital care for COVID-19 and neither is in ICU. The death toll remained at 21 in the country.

The total number of tests completed to date is 228,148, an increase of 4,211.

New Zealand downgraded its COVID-19 Alert Level from three to two from Thursday. However, general public are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to key health measures such as good hand hygiene and small public gathering less than 10 people at once.

People should also look after their mental wellbeing when heading back to work and school for the first time in a while, said the Ministry of Health.
