Samsung's Q3 operating profit hits new high

Samsung Electronics, the world's largest maker of smartphones, memory chips and flat screen TVs, saw its third-quarter operating profit hit a new record high, the company said Friday.

Operating profit reached the new quarterly high of 10.1 trillion won (9.4 billion U.S. dollars) in the three months ending Sept. 30, up 25.3 percent from the same period of last year, Samsung said in a statement.

The third-quarter sales posted a new high of 59 trillion won, up 13.1 percent from a year earlier.
