Myanmar election commission notifies change in color with ballot paper

Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) has notified voters in the country the change in color of contesting political parties' logos.

In a statement published Wednesday, a four-day countdown of the election, the UEC said political logos containing sections of white will appear yellow on the ballots as they are printed on yellow paper imported from Indonesia.

The UEC urged voters to take note of the names of candidates and parties along with their logos when they cast votes on Sunday, the election day.

Observers here said the sudden announcement of change of color in the ballot papers could confuse voters' identification of party logos when they cast votes on the day.

Response from political parties and the public is not immediately available.

There are 32 million eligible voters across the country and the Nov. 8 election involves 91 political parties and 310 independent runners. Enditem
