Vietnamese president, PM, NA chairman withdraw from party's next leadership nomination

The 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on Monday afternoon, by voting, allowed current President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung, among others, to withdraw from the list of nominations for election to the 12th CPV Central Committee (CPVCC) members.

A total of 23 people were allowed to withdraw from the nomination list for election of official members of the 12th CPVCC, local VNExpress online newspaper reported. Nine among the 23 withdrawal are from the 11th CPVCC's Politburo.

The 12th National Party Congress is scheduled to vote on Tuesday morning to elect 200 members of the 12th CPVCC, including 180 official and 20 alternate ones.

According to agenda, after the election, on Wednesday, the members of the 12th CPVCC will meet to elect a new Politburo and Secretariat of the CPVCC.

Earlier on Sunday, Vu Trong Kim, vice president and general secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, in response to local media's inquiries over information on the internet that Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPVCC) was nominated for re-election while Tran Dai Quang was nominated for the president position, Nguyen Xuan Phuc for Prime Minister position and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan for Chairman of National Assembly position, said "the CPVCC's meeting decided following that direction".

As many as 1,510 delegates representing over 4.5 million Vietnamese communist party members are attending the 12th National Party Congress, which is scheduled to last till Thursday.

The 12th National Party Congress will pave the way for the election of the country's new leadership.
