According to the spokesperson of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, there were 24 cases of the Chinese mainland expectant mothers going to Accident & Emergency Departments (AEDs) of public hospitals for delivery in April.

In April 2013 there were 24 cases in total, three of which were booked cases in private hospitals. Of the remaining 21 non-local mothers without prior booking, 10 were Mainland mothers and 11 were not from the Mainland (details are appended).

The HA spokesperson reiterated that public hospitals have ceased to accept delivery bookings for non-local (including Mainland) pregnant women for 2013. The HA also appealed to non-local expectant mothers, stating that it is high risk behaviour to rush to AEDs at the last minute for delivery, posing risks to both the mother and the baby.
