At least two people were confirmed dead Tuesday and 12 missing after severe storms battered Houston, the most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas, overnight.

The Houston Fire Department officials did not release the details of the two victims, only said that dozens of vehicles were stranded in high water throughout the city, and the two were found drowned, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Homes in some parts of Houston are still flooded and some 52, 000 customers of the CenterPoint Energy still have no power to use, said the report, adding that it is dangerous and even impossible for motorists to go to downtown Houston as the freeways and streets are still flooded.

Most schools of the city announced they would be closed for one day while METRO said morning transit services were canceled until conditions improved.

Authorities warned on Tuesday that more rains will come in the coming days. Enditem
