India’s Manushi Chhillar crowned Miss World 2017

NEW DELHI, November 20 (APD) -- India’s Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World 2017 on Saturday in the Chinese city of Sanya.

The 20-year-old beauty pageant winner belongs to the province of Haryana and is a medical student. It is after 17 years that an Indian has won the title of Miss World.

Stephanie Del Valle,from Puerto Rico who won the title last year presented the crown to Chhillar. Contestants from 118 countries participated in the beauty contest.

Miss England Stephanie Hill and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza were first and second runners-up.

Miss World with the first and second runners-up.

Through Twitter, Chillar said, “Thank you, everyone, for your constant love, support, and prayers. This one’s for India.”

In the final round Chhillar was asked which profession according to her deserved the highest salary. To which she responded, “I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it’s not always about cash but I feel it’s the love and respect that you give to someone.”

“My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids. So, I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the highest salary,” Chhillar added.

Chhillar is the sixth Indian to win the Miss World title. Earlier, ReitaFaria (1966), AishwaryaRai (1994),Diana Haydon(1997), YuktaMookhey

(1999) and Priyanka Chopra (2000), had been crowned Miss World.
