Czechia opens its first drive-through vaccination center

Some people inCzechia are getting their COVID-19 vaccinations in an unique way - at a drive-through.

The center, which is the first of its kind in the country, was opened by a private hospital in Plzen in western Czechia.

In its first week, up to 300 people a day got vaccinated from the comfort of their own cars, but the center plans to expand to 1,200 vaccines a day.

Marketa Erben, who is being treated for cancer, told AFP that she chose the center because: "They signed me up for the jab in a week … and I couldn't find a place where I could get vaccinated at once.

"Second, I like being able to drive in here and not having to queue with a crowd of people waiting for the jab."

And Vaclav Korec, another vaccine recipient, said the drive-through made getting the vaccine more accessible.

"When I was here first, the nurses gave jabs inside the hospital," he said. "Today we have found out you can get a jab sitting in a car, which is much faster and more comfortable, especially for people like me who have walking difficulties."
