China seeks to push forward development agenda with Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Feb. 4 (APD) -- China on Sunday sought to push forward the development agenda with Sri Lanka and strengthen the relationship between both countries.

The President of China, Xi Jinping, writing to President Maithripala Sirisena, expresses his warm congratulations to the President, Government and the people as Sri Lanka celebrates 70 years of Independence.

“I attach great importance to the development of China Sri Lanka relations and would like to work together with you to push forward the greater development of China – Sri Lanka strategic Cooperative Partnership featuring mutual support and ever-lasting friendship and better serve both countries and peoples” the Sri Lankan President’s office quoted the Chinese President as saying.

China is heavily involved in development projects in Sri Lanka and has invested in a port city project, international airport, highways and hospitals.
