The UN Security Council on Tuesday "expressed their profound outrage at and condemned in the strongest terms" the killing of three Israeli teenagers, whose bodies were discovered near the city of Hebron on June 30, underling "the need to bring perpetrators of these acts to justice. "

"The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators of these acts to justice and encouraged Israel and the Palestinian Authority to continue working together to do so," said a statement issued to the press here by the 15-nation UN body.

"They reiterated the need to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians and their protection and urged all parties to abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law," the statement said.

The Israeli security forces on Monday discovered the bodies of three Israeli teens, who went missing on June 12, near Hebron in the West Bank.

The bodies of 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Frankel and Gilad Shaer, both 16, were found in an area controlled by the Palestinian Authority, not far from where they were considered to be kidnapped.

The Security Council "also urged all parties to refrain from steps that could further destabilize the situation," said the statement.

"The members of the Security Council extended their condolences to the families of the victims of this heinous act and to the people and governments of Israel and the United States," it added.

On Monday, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) strongly condemned the abduction and killing of three Israeli teenagers, voicing its hope that "these events will not fuel further violence," and urging "all parties to exercise the utmost restraint."

"UNICEF strongly condemns the abduction and killing of three Israeli young people in the West Bank," said a statement issued here by the UN agency. "We join the UN secretary-general in expressing our deepest sympathy to their families."

"This latest act of violence is a tragic and terrible reminder of the toll that senseless hatred is taking on both Israeli and Palestinian children," the statement said.

Earlier Monday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the murder of the three Israeli teenagers abducted in the West Bank, calling it "heinous act."

"There can be no justification for the deliberate killing of civilians," Ban said in a statement issued here by his spokesman.

"The secretary-general believes this heinous act by enemies of peace aims to further entrench division and distrust and to widen the conflict. It must not be allowed to succeed," the statement said.
