The Lebanese army said on Thursday that it arrested an Arab citizen of Israel who had cut through the border's barbed wire to cross into Lebanon, a security source revealed to Xinhua.

According to the source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Arab-Israeli entered Lebanon on Wednesday afternoon "after cutting through a small section of the barbed wire and was arrested by the army." The Lebanese authorities are questioning the "trespasser" and will announce later if he will be released or not.

The UN peace-keeping force in Lebanon has asked the Lebanese authorities to release the Israeli citizen following the request of the Israeli military command.

Last May media reported that an Israeli of Iranian origin trespassed into southern Lebanon also through the border's barbed wire "because of his difficult living conditions and to escape persecution." The Lebanese military court released him after denying his asylum request and handed him to the International Red Cross mission that secured his return to Israel.

It's rare for an Israeli citizen to cross into Lebanon. Lebanese shepherds are frequently stopped and questioned by Israeli military at the borders, but usually released later.
